Famous worldwide following the release in 1956 of the movie Et Dieu... créa la femme starring Brigitte Bardot and the media coverage of Saint-Tropez, the beach of Pampelonne, in the neighboring locality of Ramatuelle, has remained wild and little developed until the mid-1950s. It already appeared under the name Pampalaune beach in the middle of the 18th century on the Cassini map before being named Pampelanne and Pampelune in the 19th century. The beach of Pampelonne was used by the US Army during the landing of Provence in August 1944.
