The Place du Vieux Marché (Old Market Square) is the main square of the upper town of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Vaucluse department. Shaded by a massive plane tree, it hosted the local market until the 19th century, hence its name. The square is also famous for having served as the location of the yoke, an iron collar fixed to a post where individuals guilty of petty theft and sentenced to public exhibition were tied by the neck in the Middle Ages, as reminded by a wall plaque. The Place du Vieux Marché also welcomed the city's first public fountain in 1460.
