A major urban perspective

The historical axis of Paris – or Voie Royale – is clearly visible on this aerial photograph. It is a straight line of about 6 miles (10 km) that crosses the west of Paris and enters the Hauts-de-Seine department, linking the equestrian statue of Louis XIV, in the Cour Napoleon of the Louvre Palace, to the Grande Arche of La Défense in Puteaux. Within Paris, this major perspective crosses the Tuileries Gardens, the Place de la Concorde, the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, the Place Charles-de-Gaulle and its Arc de Triomphe, as well as the Avenue de la Grande-Armée before reaching Neuilly-sur-Seine at the Porte Maillot.
