A fishing regulated by the prefecture

Professional net fishing is regulated in Martinique by the prefecture of the overseas department. Since April 2020, trammel nets and any net whose wet mesh does not measure at least 3.15 inches (80 mm) are prohibited. Derogations are granted for beach seines and certain surface nets intended for the exclusive capture of certain species of fish (flyfish, saury, etc.). The deployment of beach seines on a professional basis by means of ships like here or on foot must be subject to special authorization by prefectural order. Their measured wet mesh size cannot be less than 1.49 inches (38 mm), and fishing for juvenile demersal fish is prohibited. The minimum general size of the captured fish is 0.49 foot (15 cm) with the exception of certain species such as parrotfish, surgeonfish, or dolphinfish. Species such as koulirous, tchatcha, or makriyo are not subject to a minimum catch size.
