In 1900, Monet visited the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where he discovered the first water lilies with colorful flowers created by the historic Latour-Marliac company, still active today in Lot-et-Garonne. He decided to offer them a showcase in his water garden in Giverny. Monet constantly observed them throughout the day and transcribed their beauty on canvas. Visible from June to September at the Fondation Claude Monet, the water lilies are also present all year round at the Musée de l'Orangerie in their monumental version. Offered by Claude Monet to France the day after the armistice of November 11, 1918, as a symbol of peace, the Water Lilies were installed at the Musée de l'Orangerie in 1927, a few months after his death, according to the artist's will.
