Soon after harvest, flax straws go through different stages before becoming linen fiber. Long fibers make up 15 to 25% of the plant. After control and the scutching process, they are combed until ready for weaving and bleached if necessary. The scutched tow is first combed with ever finer combs to eliminate all the small pieces of remaining straw and separate the fibers between them. The combing process allows obtaining disentangled, almost silky fibers that seem like hair.
