At the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes department, the Monts d'Azur Biological Reserve offers the ancestral species of fauna it shelters a mosaic of varied environments. They range from natural meadows bordering the water points to rocky cliffs culminating at Pic de l'Aiglon at an altitude of 5,577 ft (1,700 m). The site is also home to woodlands of deciduous and coniferous trees on its hillsides.
