A complex mosaic of basins

0
Located between the towns of Hyères and La Londe-les-Maures on the Mediterranean coast of the Var department, the Vieux Salins had been known as Salins de Saint-Nicolas since the Middle Ages. They were renamed in 1848 when the Salin des Pesquiers was created. Their fragmented topography forming a complex mosaic of basins results from the reunification of various independent production units and explains the use of the plural to designate them.
