This Alsatian half-timbered house, built in Molsheim in 1607, was transported in its entirety – including its vegetable garden and gazebo – to the Orangerie Park in Strasbourg for the 1895 Industrial and Craft Exhibition. It constitutes the Exhibition’s last vestige and the oldest part of the building is now listed as a Historical Monument. Initially used as a bistro in the park, the Buerehiesel (a ‘farmers' cottage’ in Alsatian) was taken over in the 1970s by Viviane and Antoine Westermann, who transformed it into a gastronomic restaurant with three Michelin stars.
