A natural thermal insulation

Norman houses by the sea differ from the traditional thatched-roof house of the countryside. Their oak frame is often filled in with small bricks, clay, and straw instead of cob alone. The houses' base (solin) is also made of stones and flint from the beaches, and their roof is covered with tiles. The natural thermal insulation of the materials makes Norman houses ecological homes ahead of their time.
