The Przewalski horses (Equus ferus przewalskii) of the Monts d'Azur Reserve in the Alpes-Maritimes department come from the zoos of Prague and Gramat and the Domaine du Villaret (Lozère department) managed by the Takh Association. They arrived in the reserve in 2005 and 2006 and experienced difficulties adapting at first to this vast space and coexisting with the other animals. New males were introduced in 2009 to promote reproduction and increase the genetic variability of the foals, hence ensuring the viability of the herds.
