It was King Charlemagne who, in the 8th century, gave the first impulse to the cultivation and processing of flax in what is now France. He ordered that it be spun at court and that each household obtain the required tools. The temperate oceanic climate of Normandy and its rich and deep soil are particularly adapted to flax cultivation. Thanks to the alternation of sun and rain, the region today accounts for 50% of quality textile flax production in the world.
