Located in a valley of the Massif des Maures, Collobrières is nestled in a curve of the Réal Collobrier, a river rich in water snakes to which it owes its name. Crossed by a 12th-century dry stone bridge, the Réal Collobrier helped protect the village against the great plague epidemics of Provence. However, it did not restrain the passages of Turenne's free companies at the end of the 14th century nor the looting of the village by the Savoyard troops. The earliest traces of life in Collobrières date back to pre-Roman times, and archaeologists established that the Romans exploited lead, copper, and iron mines there.
