The Haras National du Pin is a Norman heritage desired by Louis XIV and built under his successor, Louis XV, between 1715 and 1736. Over 1,480 acres (600 ha), the stud farm known as the Versailles of horses aimed to produce more efficient horses for transport, agricultural work, military cavalry, and the royal court. The stud farm became national after the French Revolution, imperial under Napoleon, before regaining its status as a national stud farm after the fall of the Empire.
