Louis de Mornay fell madly in love with Anne (known as Ninon) de Lenclos at a Parisian social evening. The beauty seemingly ignored him until she discovered that the marquis was dying of neglect. She then sent him a lock of her hair, with this little note: “Heal! I love you...”. Their romance would last three years, a record for Ninon who habitually accumulated lovers. Louis de Mornay installed Ninon in a small pavilion in his manor of Villarceaux, far from his legitimate wife and the gossips. They had a son, Louis Félix de Mornay d’Ambleville, chevalier de La Boissière, who became an officer in the French Royal Navy.
