The Caravelle peninsula and its 959 acres (388 ha) of protected areas form, on the eastern coast of Martinique, a wild and preserved territory of significant flora and fauna richness. The site is home to more than 150 plant species characteristic of the Lesser Antilles, including 22 rare species in the xerophilic forest that covers the sides of the reliefs and all the species of mangrove trees of the island in the mangroves of Baie du Trésor. At the fauna level, no less than 80 species of birds have been recorded there - among them the Mocking Thrush, the Paille-en-queue, various frigates but also the White Throat, an extremely rare bird species that now only lives on the Caravelle peninsula and on the island of Saint Lucia – as well as many mantous and touloulous crabs.
