The forge of the blacksmith's workshop of the Guédelon medieval construction site in the Yonne department was redone in 2004. As the blacksmith's fire is permanently lit, its stone hearth was reinforced with buttresses, while the workshop's roof was adorned with chestnut shingles. Such wooden tiles are highly resistant and can last over a century. The wide leather bellow of the forge was renovated in 2003 as it was 200 years old. The blacksmith's anvil dates from the 15th century and consists of nine blocks welded together.
