Listed as Natura 2000 sites and protected by a state biological reserve, the Lérins Islands are home to well-preserved flora and vegetation. They shelter, especially in the coastal lagoon of the Batéguier pond, several habitats of halophilic and nitrophilous thickets and Salicornia that have completely or almost completely disappeared from the continental coast of the Alpes-Maritimes department. The biologically rich and diverse marine portion of the site is, for its part, threatened by the degradation of Posidonia meadows linked to anchorages and by the silting of certain coralligenous areas.
