An endangered sand flower
The picking of Dune carnations (Dianthus Armeria) on sand dunes is punishable by a fine. The pink flower of the Caryophyllaceae family blossoms at the top of a bluish-green stem seven to eleven inches (18 to 28 cm) high. Its leaves are short, stiff, and almost flat, and the petals number one to five. The Dune carnation, which releases a subtle fragrance, is in great danger of disappearing.
