Called a weed most of the time because of its stinging hairs, stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) is actually a great herb! It has many qualities not only medicinal but also in gardening and cooking. This perennial plant with very straight stems quickly colonizes spaces. It is anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and depurative (useful in the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema). Its culinary use should however be reserved for young shoots.
