A reoriented and extended church
0
0
Between 1844 and 1867, the Saint-Pierre parish church of Castellar in the Alpes-Maritimes department was reoriented along a north-south axis and extended north to establish the new apse choir. The original main gate, located to the east and dating from the time when the church was oriented east-west, was sealed off. A new gate was opened on Saint-Pierre church's south facade in front of which a forecourt was created. The monument is placed under the patronage of Saint Peter, considered the Prince or first of the apostles
