Contemporary with the construction of the current village on Saint-Sébastien hill in the 15th century, the Saint-Pierre parish church of Castellar in the Alpes-Maritimes department has been repaired and refurbished several times. Highly deteriorated at the beginning of the 17th century, it was closed by the Bishop of Ventimiglia, Mgr Stefano Spinola, and restored for more than two years between 1610 and 1612. Renovated again a century later, Saint-Pierre Church underwent a radical transformation between 1844 and 1867 before being once more restored following the earthquake of 1887.
