Created on July 13, 2007, the Chastreix-Sancy National Nature Reserve covers an area of 1,894.5 hectares (7.31 sq. miles) in the volcanic massif of the Monts Dore, located to the West of the Puy-de-Dôme department and in the centre of the Massif Central.
