A vat room like a cloister

0
Cistercian monks planted vines in Vougeot in the 12th century and built a cellar between 1160 and 1190. The building houses the cellar in itself, two floors, and the dormitory of the lay brothers. The vat room in the form of a cloister is adjacent to it. It has four galleries 131 ft (40 m) long by 32 ft (10 m) wide and equipped with large fermentation tanks around a courtyard. The two buildings were attached to the castle of Vougeot built in 1551. Two presses were constructed in 1478 and 1489, and two others in 1709 and 1743.
