An intensive irrigated crop

Rice cultivation in Camargue is an intensive irrigated crop with direct sowing. Transplanting was abandoned in the 1960s in the region. The land is plowed to a depth of 0.65 ft (20 cm) at the end of winter and the soil is leveled to standardize the water heights before being fertilized with a complete fertilizer that serves as a seedbed. Channels are then dug to regulate the irrigation and drainage of the plots.
