A growth accelerated in the Middle Ages

The Côte d'Albâtre (Alabaster Coast) suddenly opens where Veules-les-Roses has settled since the 4th century. Under Philippe le Bel, the port grew in importance with the intensification of herring and mackerel fishing. The wealth of the village grew with the Lords of Blosseville in the 16th century. In the 17th century, wool was washed in the Veules river, and the people began to weave cotton cloth for Rouen. They also converted the mills to the production of rapeseed oil. Even today, the cottages, mills, washhouses, and watercress beds attest to the village's activities before the tourist wave of the 19th century.
