The COGEVI (General Winegrowers Cooperative) was founded in 1921 following a revolt of winegrowers ten years before. Long remained discreet, even secret, the oldest cooperative in the region now displays a collection of more than 1,500 objects retracing the history of Champagne's winegrowers. The museum of the Cité du Champagne also allows understanding the evolution of the work of the vine and the development of champagne wine. Each year, the COGEVI and its winegrowers transform the equivalent of 2,000 acres (810 ha) of vines into wine in the Champagne region, spread over 160 villages.
