The Vey bridge spans the Vire on the edge of the Channel and the Calvados department in the marshy Baie de Veys. Before it, commercial communications between the two regions were complicated. The first stone was laid in 1817 after 650 oak stakes were planted in muddy ground by 700 men. The Vey bridge is now equipped with flood gates that hold the high tides.
