A forest and dispersed locality

The 1,688 acres (683 ha) of the locality of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer remain mainly occupied by forests and semi-natural environments (61.7% in 2018), recalling its cadastral situation at the beginning of the 19th century. Back then, the municipality was described in the archives of the departmental council of Var as a forest of cork oaks and heather. The highest point of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, the Drapeau, rises 1,033 ft (315 m) above the Mediterranean Sea. The locality of 689 permanent residents experiences a population density of 101 inhabitants per square kilometer resulting in a relatively dispersed hillside habitat.
