Since 1983, the Chartreuse de la Verne has housed a community of nuns from Bethlehem, the Assumption of the Virgin, and Saint-Bruno. The order comprises more than 700 members spread worldwide across thirty monasteries of nuns and three monasteries of monks. Founded in 1950 in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican following the promulgation of the dogma of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, this contemplative and monastic religious community of pontifical right developed in the 1970s-1990s. The monastic family of Bethlehem's life is particularly inspired by the model of the Carthusians, who occupied the Chartreuse de la Verne from the 12th to the 18th centuries.
