The exceptional flora of the Chaudefour valley, here partially covered with snow, results from the combination of three climatic influences: an oceanic influence, since the Sancy massif is directly exposed to the Atlantic disturbances which cross the Gulf of Biscay; a continental influence due the distance from the sea and to the altitude, leading to harsh winters; and a Mediterranean influence due to its low latitude (45°31′59″ North).
