The village of Rocamadour dominates the Alzou canyon, perched from the top of its limestone cliff. The sacred city is a high place of pilgrimage, famous for its sanctuaries and more particularly for its Black Madonna. The village of Rocamadour is the second most visited site in France, just after Mont Saint-Michel! The Grand Escalier (great staircase), a distinctive element of the site, has 216 steps leading to the square of the churches where pilgrims and visitors discover the seven sanctuaries of Rocamadour. Among these sanctuaries, the Notre-Dame chapel is a must and is also known as the miraculous chapel.
