When it hunts, the cheetah first spots its prey from a long distance thanks to an excellent eyesight. Unlike other predators, it does not necessarily choose the weakest preys. It tries to get closer, from behind, until it is about 300 meters or less from the animal. Then, it starts to runs at a frenetic pace in order to get its prey isolated and tries to make it fall on the ground. Once immobilized, it grips the throat. The hunt usually lasts less than thirty seconds.
