The hull frame technique, also known as small timber frame, was used to build the hayloft of La Grange de la Haute Vallée farm. It allows taking advantage of the whole attic's space for storing fodder, taking inspiration from the shape of the ships' hulls. Particularly widespread in Lozère, a department bordering Cantal, the hull frame technique was invented around 1550 by the French Renaissance architect Philibert Delorme.
