Reims Cathedral is the preferred location for the coronation of the kings of France, from Louis the Pious (816) to Charles X (1825). In addition to its historical role, it is also the value and finesse of its 2,303 statues that make the monument so rich. During the 1914-1918 war, the cathedral was hit by almost 300 shells and its roof was reduced to ashes by a terrible fire in September 1914. A new fireproof roof structure was installed in the 1920s to save this Gothic masterpiece once and for all. Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral has been on the Unesco World Heritage List since 1991.
