A 15th century roof structure

The ‘Grosse Tour’ (Great Tower) of Sedan Castle is remarkable in terms of architecture. Built at the request of Lord Jean de La Marck (1406-1470), the Grosse Tour incorporates a smaller tower belonging to the original castle built in 1424. The oak frame supporting the roof is the original one (15th century). One cannot help but admire the ingenious arrangement of the beams. It is reminiscent of the roof structure of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, now sadly lost. The skills of the master carpenters of the Middle Ages are undeniable.
