Saint-Michel Chapel emerges from the Lac de Serre-Ponçon between the municipalities of Savine and Crots in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. It was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century following its destruction by the troops of the Duke of Savoy in 1692. The initial chapel was built in the 12th century in the hamlet of Couches and depended on the priory of Saint-Michel de la Cluse. When the Serre-Ponçon dam was flooded, the current chapel was saved from its programmed submersion by its location on a promontory.
