A reconstructed cathedral dedicated to Saint Maurice

0
On September 22, 1209, the warlord Simon de Montfort and his men seized the town of Mirepoix on the right bank of the Hers. The city's church was then placed under the patronage of Saint Maurice, who replaced Saint Michael. On June 16, 1289, a flood swept away Mirepoix as well as its church. Guy III, Lord of Lévis Mirepoix, decided to give land on the left bank of the Hers to build the new town of Mirepoix. On May 6, 1298, Jean Ier de Lévis Mirepoix, son of Gui III, laid the first stone of the future cathedral of the new Mirepoix, placed under the patronage of Saint Maurice until today.
