A thriving commercial village

By protecting the village of Châteauneuf and the south of Auxois, the fortress built in 1175 allowed the development of a prosperous commercial village of which there remain today superb houses of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries with decorated pediments and turrets and original signs. It was in the 14th century that the prosperity of the village became particularly flourishing thanks to the many fairs granted by the Duke of Burgundy Eudes IV.
