A human and industrial adventure

The Usine du bas (Lower Factory) de Dommartin-le-Franc (Haute-Marne) experienced a real boom in the 18th century. Until its closure in 1992, it produced cookers, stoves, and ornamental cast iron. The ASPM (association for the preservation of the metallurgical heritage of the Haute-Marne) bought the machines and buildings and transformed the place into a Conservatory of the arts of metallurgy. With more than 250 foundry and forge machines, the Conservatory concentrates the memory of the Haute-Marne and illustrates a remarkable human and industrial adventure. Demonstrations of iron casting take place every year in the casting hall.
