The history of the islet and the castle of Brégançon has been shared, since a very ancient time, between a double vocation. On the one hand, the site constituted a fortified castle forming a strategic headland in the Mediterranean Sea on the bay of Hyères and the harbor of Toulon. On the other hand, it represented a cultivable territory likely to bring profits and honors to its owners. Thus, the domain of Brégançon was part of the possessions of the powerful Viscounts of Marseille until 1482, when it passed into the hands of the different owners who gave it its current appearance.
