A growing tourist attraction

Marseille fish market's stalls extend near the Ombrière designed for Marseille-Provence 2013 European Capital of Culture. This strategic location combined with the significant growth in tourism linked to the media coverage of the event have turned the market into a real attraction for passing visitors. But it is rather the inhabitants and the restaurants of the Old Port and of the seaside that keep the fishermen's business going by offering menus rich in local fish and Provençal recipes: grilled fish with olive oil, sardine or anchovy spreads, aïoli, fish soup, bouillabaisse, etc.
