Dated around 25,000 BP, the painting of Punctuated horses is located in the Pech-Merle cave, near the town of Cabrerets in the Lot region. It represents two horses painted with black dots on the inside and outside, as well as six negative black hands on the outside. The cave, discovered in 1922, welcomed visitors from 1926 and was then classified as a Historic Monument in 1952. The Punctuated horses represent one of the main attractions to the visit of the Pech-Merle.
