Located on the seafront near the casino at 45 Rue Henri Dobert in Houlgate, Villa Harjès took the name of its owner John Harjès, a multi-millionaire American banker. Completed in 1883, it rises on three levels and incorporates the criteria of the Grand Siècle architecture: high roofs, crests and finials, brick facade bands, polychrome ceramic tiles, and geometric and floral motifs. On the sea side, a veranda inspired by the architecture of the United States was added.
