The wine-growing areas of the Côte Bourguignonne are grouped into four sub-regions: Côte de Nuits and Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais, and Beaujolais. The plain of Bresse is intersected by wide valleys on which the most famous wines thrive. With a large majority of red wines, the region is famous for Pinot Noir, from which originate the Côte de Nuit and Côte de Beaune, renowned worldwide.
