An activity born in Saint-Claude

In addition to beads and crosses for the rosaries of the pilgrims of Saint-Claude, craftsmen of the 5th century also made small whistles in the shape of fish that appeared on the lead seals of the abbey. Footstools or Sella for the mass were also turned, like the one sent to Sainte Radegonde, the oldest French piece of furniture identified (520 AD). Skittles and spinning tops for children gradually appeared. Religious objects being banned after the Revolution, profane and utilitarian objects flourished, such as the renowned pipes of Saint-Claude.
