The role and status of the Haras Nationaux (National Stud Farms) evolved during the 20th century with the transfer of equestrian uses to sport and leisure. Became a public institution in 1999, the Haras Nationaux and the Ecole Nationale d'Équitation-Cadre Noir de Saumur merged to form the Institut Français du Cheval et de l'Équitation (French Institute for Horses and Riding) (IFCE) by decree of January 22, 2010. The Haras National du Pin maintained its founding reproduction activity transferred from 2013 to the private sector thanks to a Cooperative Society of Collective Interest bringing together private breeders who installed their stallions in stable No. 2 (photo) and to the rental of some national stallions. The breeding activity of the Haras National du Pin definitively stopped in 2017.
