An abbey transformed in the 13th century

In the 13th century, a gothic style choir with seven radiating chapels and an ambulatory replaced the old Roman style choir of the Abbaye-aux-Hommes in Caen. Such transformation allowed accomplishing the processions more easily. Each chapel is decorated with multicolored stained-glass windows dedicated to characters from the Bible. The top of the apse has three stained-glass windows representing Saints, including Saint Nicolas on the left. A cleaning operation was carried out by the Glassmaker Companions in 2020 in order to restore the glass to its original luminosity.
