An abbey deprived of monks since 1794

Augmented reality allows a 3D (re)discovery of what Cluny abbey once was by allowing the real remains and the virtual missing parts to fit together perfectly. It does not, however, bring to life the Benedictine monks who once occupied the premises and were definitively driven out in 1794. They were replaced by the promotions of about two hundred engineering students who have been welcomed since 1901 on the campus of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (National School of Arts and Crafts). The 18th-century convent buildings visible here now house their dormitories and study rooms.
