Under the midnight sun, Arctic
On Igloolik Island, summers have 24-hour daylight from May to July: it is the polar day. The snow and ice disappear. Temperatures range from 46°C (8°C) to 59°F (15°C), the tundra is covered of plants and colorful flowers. Icebergs drift past the island through the narrows of Fury and Hecla Strait, which also funnels migrating beluga whales, herds of walrus and of narwhales. In October, snowfalls begin and the sea ice forms. Winter temperatures hover around -22°F (-30°C).
